Overview of Australian copyrights protection with few significant rules inside publishing industry for the Australian authors.

The real number of the authors in Australia can be only estimated approximately. So far, the figure is between 5,000 -10,000 authors that are considered to be fully employed or employed as a part-time. However, the authors now becoming the publishers by adding numbers of the authors quite significantly. Go figure it out!

Internet puts everything in different perspective for the publishing industry as a whole. Regardless to many changes, every country is trying to ‘save’ their publishing industry against the unavoidable globalization and legal reformation of publishing industry, internationally. Australia takes these changes seriously, in order to protect its own publishing industry by shielding it from foreign competition, respectively through import restrictions. Basically we are talking about availability, price and quality matter of the books. . In order to protect copyright beyond the borders, Australia had signed two international agreements: 1886 Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works and the 1994 World Trade Organisation agreements on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). This was copied directly from Australian Productivity Commission Research Report (June 2009).

Nevertheless, the actual Australian market is quite big ( around $2.5 billion) and an opportunity to be published, distributed and sold in Australia still strongly attractive for the foreign authors as well as for the local authors.

The biggest consideration for publishing industry is the Copyright Law, its guides and regulations. Every publisher and author must be aware and brief themselves before making choice- when and where to publish their books with clear understanding of distribution, marketing, selling and royalty payments ‘mechanisms’.

In Australia, copyrights are the basis for the trade and protect publishers and authors from unauthorized production or reproduction of their work or publication but doesn’t stop parallel import of the books that are singly ordered for the personal use. Praise the Internet for giving any foreign author opportunity to be sold on Australian market through direct orders. This type of import is called direct import, which means for any foreign author free highway to Australia via the Internet.

In Australia, copyright protection is applying automatically to the author of original work and doesn’t need to be registered prior the actual publication but in order to protect author’s original work, publisher will seek exclusive “ reproduction” right in order to publish and sell multiple copies, or publisher well seek “ publication” right in order to make author’s work available for sale.

The Australian author has to be aware of couple of things- how much money a publisher will offer to the author for such exclusive rights and what specific conditions an author want to place on the publisher in order to produce their book.

However, for an Australian author to be protected by Australian copyright law he or she must follow few guides. First their work has to be original and not copied from any other work. Secondly, the actual work has to be written down. Next, the author must be Australian citizen or holder of permanent residency at the time of writing unpublished manuscript, or the first edition must be published in Australia. If you comply with this guide you are granted 70 years of your copyright protection after your death, as Australian author.

In conclusion, any author has to remember that any publisher is the ‘middle man’ between your intellectual expression of original idea and the potential reader/buyer that is willing to pay for your work. Your right are protected and you should sell them wisely.

What should you know and understand about an American accent; an Australian accent; an English accent; or a South–African accent?

Let us first establish what an accent really is. By expressing yourself through speech you pronounce words in a particular manner that includes: the characteristics of sound of your voice (pronunciation); the tone of your voice (weaker or stronger); a stress upon syllables or even a verse (articulation); and even word connection in the structure of a sentence. All of the foregoing characteristics will give an indication of where you originally come from. Any native speaker from a particular geographical location will pick up on such characteristics and will recognise them as a different accent.

What one has to recognise before comparing and understanding different accents is the differences between internal dialects in each of the subject countries.

In America for example, the official number of different dialects ranges from three to twenty four, and some arguments have been made that it is practically impossible to determine an actual figure. In Australia, such distinction is basically very vague because the differences in vocabulary and word pronunciation are too minuscule to accurately take into account. In England, the complication of different dialects is constantly changing due to the many immigrants who are establishing their own ‘mixed with English’ vocabulary, with English people starting to use them frequently as their own. In South Africa the dialects are more related to a social classification: cultural (upper class), general (middle class) and broad (working class).

Why did we jump from the accents to the dialects? For one reason only – to show you how they are interconnected and have influenced each other. Dialect is defined as a specific vocabulary that belongs to a close region or even smaller group; and accent, as we established earlier, is the actual pronunciation of a word or sentence. When new vocabulary is in place it usually has particular pronunciation attached to it and sometimes even to the specific structure of the sentence or the group of words.

In our modern world with fast and highly developed communication combined with easy commuting, plus even geographical relocation that results in the establishment of new ethnic groups in new countries – the process of integration of new accents and new dialects is changing rapidly. Some are disappearing and some are just evolving.

There is no doubt that world wide multiculturalism is changing our way of speaking. Still, we can recognise some differences in pronunciation and vocabularies of four major countries that choose to speak English as a main language for communication.

In America, unlike Australia, there are still strongly recognised differences in how people speak in New York and New England compared to rural Virginia, or Boston, or even in Houston.

In England you can also hear strong differences between such regions as Manchester and Salford or Oxfordshire and Derby.

In case you have now decided to learn and understand more about different accents of English in English speaking countries, it is suggested you start your search from Wikipedia. It has enough information, including a considerable bibliography, to help you look for more.

When real people invent something – What happens next?

Initially, anyone who thinks they have invented something has to clearly evaluate the actual state of their invention: is it just an idea; a self-made prototype, or already a manufactured product for which they are seeking local or overseas distribution?
To be honest, that should be your second thought. Your first thought should concentrate on patent licensing, because regardless of what it is, it is your intellectual property. Your intellectual property has monetary value for a simple reason- you can sell it for a profit.
Why would you sell your own invention? The reason is quite practical. By selling your invention, idea or self-made prototype you take away the considerable pressure of finding and investing start-up capital into the processes of product evaluation, licensing, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, promotion, and so on.
You can first pay a relatively small amount to have your invention evaluated in regard to: operational performance, licensing potential, market competitiveness, manufacturer’s acceptance, and so forth.
When the evaluation is completed and finds your invention clearly has potential to perform, it is time to proceed with actual patent licensing. This is a very important time to concentrate on the legal issues associated with your invention.
As is normal accepted practice, you will be looking for a royalty payment, and rightly so – you are the inventor. The royalty payments are usually paid in advance of the first year’s royalty. It is very important for you to also establish an ongoing yearly minimum royalty performance thereby giving you security for further development of your invention whilst removing the opportunity for the company to which you are selling the rights to your invention, to put it in a safe and leave it hidden there to remove it from competition. One of the most important legal issues is to make sure that you, as an inventor, are insured or indemnified by the client company against damages in case a consumer of an actual product is injured. You must also secure the right to an independent audit in case you suspect unfair distribution of the royalties.
As you can see, with so many legal complications, you are better off to find a professional company that will properly evaluate your invention and then proceed with patent licensing for you. To protect yourself and your invention, you must ask the client company you choose to sign a “Nondisclosure or Confidentiality Agreement” for your own peace of mind. The actual evaluation report is very inexpensive, around $200 dollars, and is even less than a professional marketing report. The ongoing payment to a company that takes on a licensing process for you should be no more than 30% of actual revenue. If such a company asks for more than 30% without substantial reason, it is grossly unfair, and you are better off to find a different company to deal with.
Before the actual process of licensing commences, the company that offers to represent you will ask you to sign a licensing representation agreement detailing the terms and conditions of the ongoing relationship between you and the company that will represent you in the licensing process. Depending on your invention’s complexity, and the ability and capacity of the company that will now represent you, it will take between three to eighteen months for completion of the patent licensing. However, it will save you a lot of headaches and will better protect you legally.
We can only wish you good luck at this stage and advise you to carefully shop around before you submit your invention or idea to a specialist licensing company.

Who are they? What is so unique about that organisation? How do they operate? What is their aim?

People to People (P2P) is a non-government and non-profit organisation run by a group of directors in the United State of America. Clearly, P2P is a non- political, non-religious and non-ethnical group that was founded in 1999 by the ‘Ethiopian Diaspora’.
Initially, the Ethiopian Diaspora aimed to give back to their motherland, support in the development of better education, health, economy and social welfare. However, it soon expanded into a Global Network and spread its spirit of compassion to other countries: Finland, Sweden, Canada, USA and Ethiopia. P2P became a truly international organisation in less than a decade.
In 2008, the UN granted Special consultative status to “People to People” by giving them the opportunity to designate official representatives to the United Nation Headquarters in New York, Vienna and Geneva.
P2P has its own philosophy which is so caring and admirable:”…greatness comes from character, caring and contribution. We are where we are and we have what we have because of our people. It is therefore only logical to commit ourselves to give back something priceless, hope and voice to turn their dreams into a reality”.
People to People has received many endorsements, rewards and countless testimonials from highly profiled officials, including presidents, ambassadors and professors, in recognition of their successful work.
If you in anyway feel passionate about their philosophy and would like to be involved in their mission, you can: become a voice of awareness; donate or organise fundraisings; sign up as a volunteer; become a member of P2P; simply be well informed by visiting their website at www.peoplepeople.org

He is unstoppable optimist with great sense of humor. However, the more concise description of the future super businessman is entrepreneur from the capital letter. He talked and talked and talked. We were sitting and listening. Why? Because everything he said was informative and interesting and we as bloggers and small businesspeople were feeling the need to comprehend the power of making money by just blogging. From making blogs successful to creating millions of dollars – is very appealing topic. Traffic generation, social media manipulation, adsense exploitation and huge figures in dollars made our eyes sparkling in tune with Leo’s enthusiasm. We were flying all over the world by private jets as a dedicated secretaries and chosen by Leo helpers of the future super empire. Wow!
As we land, it was time to give hugs and go home to process huge data of information in order to get ready to punch out dollar after dollar by typing and clicking and joining and whatever else.
Luckily, we do not need to remember all advice and guides from mister Big, because recently he created his own Blog – The Leo Blog and everyone welcome to find right direction in order to become multimillionaire or simply get inspired by Leo, personally.

What do we know about “WOOT”?

Women Of Oz Travelling Together, WOOTT, is the club for Australian women to find like-minded female companions for travel within Australia. Whether you’re married, single, widowed or divorced, this is the club you belong to.
How we discovered www.woott.com.au?
We actually met the founder Barbie Young – she is so funny and friendly as one can only wish to be.
Barbie said to us and to everybody: “I’m all about having fun. Don’t ask me about politics – I don’t have a clue and don’t want to discuss it. Life is short, so have fun and don’t get bogged down in the muddy stuff.

She continued: “I love to draw and write, which is why I’m an author. You can get a copy of first book, a funny adult picture book, Bonkers Bookcase or buy copies directly from me, when we meet out on the road. Bring it on!”
Find “Bonkers Bookcase” on www.barbieyoungbooks.com and give a great gift to somebody who has fantastic sense of humor, as Barbie Young has.

Barbie Young: “I also love to socialize and organise parties and other events, paying particular attention the decor, music and food. I have crates and crates of party supplies, including costumes and props. Halloween is in my specialty. “

And there is more – we were so lucky to get one of her book, as a gift and we are still laughing. It is a very interesting gift idea and we advise you to find about Barbie Young and her books as soon as possible. We guarantee- you will have great fun.

Charity water organisation.

From manifesto of “charity: water” non-profit organisation:”One in eight people in our world don’t have access to the most basic of human needs. Something we can’t imagine going 12 hours without.
In 2004, Scott Harrison went to West Africa to see how people live in undeveloped countries compare to his life in Ney York. He signed up as a volunteer and floating hospital-ship which provides free medical services in poor countries brought him in Liberia.

Advertising is one way of promoting the product, paid by the sponsor, in a non-personal communication platform targeting segmented audience. It is used by business firms, museums, government, schools and various organizations to present their message to their target market and get response measured by market share and profitability.

Top spenders include Proctor and Gamble, Sears and Coke. Proctor and Gamble is catering global market. With its wide range of product line, assume the cost of advertising they spend annually to promote individual products, but with increasing market share, its advertising strategy is indispensable. Coke continues to perform its advertising programs even if they gained global branding, and they are highly competent among its competitors. Coke aims to remind the public of its existence and constant consumption to generate more sales. Schools and organizations use college advertising to bring about their causes and integrity to target students, parents and employers.

The main purpose of college advertising is profitability. However, it is too broad and difficult to measure. Getting the ultimate goal requires major decisions to be considered.

Mission

From the above examples, you have learned why companies implement advertising strategies to promote their products. The objectives of advertising should be defined for measurable results. It is designed according to different stages of product life cycles and scale of effects.

Advertising can be informative, which aims to promote awareness to its target market about a new product or features.
5ms of Advertising
a new product or features.
(Chevrolet spends a lot or advertising to introduce its brand new Chevy model)
Advertising can be persuasive, which aims to influence its target market to appreciate, prefer, try and buy the advertised product. (Chivas Regal persuades the public that its brand offers more taste and honor other than any brands of Scotch whisky)
Advertising can remind its current users or customers to purchase or consume their products again and again. (Clearasil Facial Wash on magazine and Internet ad remind users to purchase the said product for their beautification and cleanliness)
Advertising aims to convince those who purchased the products that they have made the right choice. (Bank advertisements intend to show that account holders are happy and secured in choosing them as partners for their financial needs and investments)

Money

One of the major considerations in advertising is how much will be the funds allocated. Most companies failed in getting their corporate objectives because of this issue. They spend millions and billions, but the rate of customers’ response and value is just enough to cover their advertising cost or the sales are just too small. It is indispensable to consider the product life cycle. Products beginning to build its brand needs high budget for advertising. Those brands, which establish high-market share, should reduce their advertising to take advantage of high yield and investment return. Companies with products needed to drop should also reduce their advertising in a market, where competition is tough, and competitors use expensive advertising. It is necessary to advertise more powerful to be noticed and differentiate your positioning among competitors.

Message

There are several methods on generating a message depending on the objectives of a company. There are advertisements that focus on benefit, incorporating flavored words that give character to the benefit. Some may use content and earnest as a message, and if the client feels unsatisfied, then he would have the option of getting a refund or another item or product.

(Establishments offering pizza with free, fast delivery promises to provide another box of pizza if a customer was not able to get his order on time)

Whatever method of generating advertising message to be used must be made with creativity and effectively bringing out the objectives of the company, which could be to gain market awareness, persuade, remind and convince that customers did the right purchase decision. The message must be unique and believable. It is necessary to conduct an analysis to determine which words have the positive impact to target market. The message is the building block of positioning, which is very prominent in building and establishing a good or highly competitive brand. Advertisements should be in appropriate for the target market. It should have an impact, whether rational or emotional appeal, to achieve the optimal response of the audience.

Media

Advertising has a characteristic of being persuasive and public in nature. It is where companies introduce their product and public in nature. It is where companies introduce their product or additional features, penetrates the market and generates sales.

Factors to Consider Media Platforms

Target Audience Media Platforms
(Insurance companies mostly advertise their products and services on print ads as its target market, usually Class A – C who are working ages 18-60 years old, rely on contents from newspaper, magazines, and brochures).
